Grace Loncraine
Grace has worked exclusively in criminal defence since she qualified as a solicitor in 2018. In 2020 she joined Commons, a not-for-profit criminal defence firm with a focus on social justice. In 2022 she was asked to join the directorship.
Grace’s appellant work has included cases in the Crown Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. Among her successful appeals are:
-
An extradition matter in the High Court based on the requested person’s right to a retrial in circumstances where they were unfit to plead;
-
A Crown Court appeal of a Magistrates’ Court guilty plea. This is usually not allowed but Grace developed novel arguments around what is meant by an “equivocal plea”;
-
An Attorney’s General’s reference in which the Crown sought to increase her client’s minimum tariff on a murder sentence.
